LABOR’s statewide grass-roots
political action key to 2007 Election wins

Congratulations to Labor’s endorsed candidates who were elected and to all of Labor’s political activists statewide.”
PA AFL-CIO Pres. Bill George and Sec.-Treas. Rick Bloomingdale

Following is the most complete list of victories according to unofficial election results.

Statewide Judicial Elections

In pursuit of justice for all workers and their families Labor leaders and volunteers statewide successfully mobilized union household voters to vote for candidates endorsed by the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO.  Most Justices and Judges endorsed by Labor were elected or retained.
The elections of Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Seamus McCaffery and Justice Debra Todd and Superior Court Judge Christine Donohue will help ensure respect for the rights of working families from the courts. All three have strong union backgrounds: Justice McCaffery is a 38-year FOP member; Justice Todd is the daughter of a USW member from Aliquippa, PA; and Judge Donohue is the daughter of a coal miner (UMWA) and a seamstress (ILGWU).
Following are Pennsylvania AFL-CIO endorsed Justices and Judges who were elected and their vote tallies.

Municipal and County Government Victories

The AFL-CIO’s PA Labor 2007 Member-To-Member Program also helped pro-working family candidates win local elections statewide.
For instance, thanks to volunteers mobilized by the Schuylkill County Central Labor Council and the Northeast Area Labor Federation, the majority Commissioners in Schuylkill County are Democrats for the first time since 1971 – 36 years!
