What is a Podcast?

A podcast is an mp3 audio file that you can download to your desktop and play with any number of free media players such as Microsoft's Windows Media Player, Apple's Quick Time player or iTunes, or the Real Media Player. If you want, you can put podcast audio files on a portable mp3 player such as Apple's iPod.

You download podcasts with free software that works very much like an RSS newsfeed aggregator.

One piece of podcast software that works on Windows, MacOS and Linux is Apple Computer's iTunes 4.9
