Labor Leaders, Dislocated Workers To Testify on Crisis In Health Care

Skyrocketing Costs and Growing Numbers Without Health Care, Major Concerns for Workers

Harrisburg PA -- Union leaders and dislocated workers will present testimony on the “Crisis in Health Care” before the State House Majority Policy Committee to be held at Nova Chemicals, 1555 Coraopolis Heights Road, Moon Township, PA, near Pittsburgh, on Wednesday, July 14, 2004.  Union leaders and dislocated workers will give their unique perspectives on the escalating costs of health care benefits, the crises working people face when they lose their health care coverage, and the alarming increase in numbers of workers without health care benefits. 

Jack Shea, President of the Allegheny County Central Labor Council; John Chalovich, Business Manager, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 5; Gabe Morgan, Director, Service Employees International Union, Local 3; will present testimony as will two dislocated union workers, members of the Mon Valley Unemployed Committee.  The dislocated workers are scheduled to testify at 10:40 A.M. The panel of Labor Leaders, headed by Jack Shea, will testify at 11:10 A.M.

The State House Majority Policy Committee, Chaired by State Representative Mario Civera, will be hearing testimony over two days, beginning Wednesday, July 14 and Thursday, July 15, 2004.  The July 15th hearings will be held at the Greentree Township Municipal Building, 110 West Manilla Ave., Pittsburgh, PA.
