Resolution No. 31

PENNSYLVANIA ALLIANCE FOR RETIRED AMERICANS

WHEREAS, It has been proven time and time again that Labor’s most precious asset is it’s retired union members; and

Exit polls, and other polls, have shown union retirees not only vote in all elections but support union-endorsed candidates to a higher degree than other segments of the population of union members; and

The National AFL-CIO has established the Alliance for Retired Americans (ARA) as it’s official retiree group replacing the former National Council of Senior Citizens and has placed support and helped build a new organization that now represents 2.5 million retired union members, of whom one quarter million live in Pennsylvania.

         THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That this 36th Constitutional Convention of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO go on record as supporting the work of the Pennsylvania Alliance for Retired Americans,

And that it urge affiliates to list the names and retiree clubs and their respective unions and assign such clubs to affiliate with the PARA.

The 2006 Convention

Planning is now underway for the 2006 Convention
