Protect Workers from Extreme Heat
Working in extreme heat makes workers vulnerable to heat-related illness and even death. Call Congress in support of heat safety standards and to protect workers from heat at work.
The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO is the state's largest federation of labor unions, representing hundreds of thousands of working men and women across various trades, public service sectors, and industries. As an official state affiliate of the national AFL-CIO, it acts as a unified voice for workers in legislative, political, and community advocacy.
What Do We Do
- Political & Legislative Advocacy: Lobby state and federal lawmakers for pro-labor legislation. Actively support policies like higher minimum wages and robust workplace safety standards.
- Electoral Endorsements: The PA AFL-CIO has a powerful political arm that evaluates and endorses candidates for public office who support organized labor.
- Worker Empowerment: Fight against legislation that weakens collective bargaining rights and actively oppose "right-to-work" measures.
- Solidarity & Mobilization: The federation acts as an umbrella to organize community outreach, assist in union strikes, and coordinate actions across various local chapters.
Structure
The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO is comprised of 51 affiliated international and national labor unions with over 1,400 local chapters in all of the state’s 67 counties. It was formed on June 9, 1960, through the merger of the Pennsylvania Federation of Labor and the Pennsylvania Congress of Industrial Organizations.
If you are a member of a union in the state, your local branch is likely affiliated with the PA AFL-CIO.
